Profile
Sofya Uvaydov is a partner in the National Appellate, Litigation & Consulting Group. She is a senior leader of the firm’s appellate practice, advising and directing teams across the Northeast, California, and Texas, and handling high-stakes appellate matters nationwide. Clients turn to Sofya when cases demand appellate precision, strategic discipline, and a creative path to defensible outcomes.
Sofya integrates early into trial teams to shape case strategy long before a verdict is reached. She works closely with trial counsel to craft dispositive motions, preserve and frame appellate issues, evaluate damages, and guide trial presentation with appellate risk in mind. Her approach reflects the evolving role of appellate counsel as a strategic partner throughout the entirety of litigation.
Sofya has played key roles in complex, high-exposure matters, including catastrophic personal injury litigation, coordinated product liability proceedings, major construction defect disputes involving projects exceeding $100 million, and municipal liability cases. She also routinely handles employment and labor law disputes, commercial litigation, and public-sector matters, bringing appellate discipline to trial-level decision-making.
Before joining Kahana Feld, Sofya practiced at top New York litigation and appellate firms, where she served as a partner focused on appellate strategy and advocacy. She also served as an Assistant Attorney General in the New York State Office of the Attorney General’s Litigation Bureau, defending state agencies and officials in federal civil rights, employment, and constitutional litigation, including complex multi-plaintiff and class actions. Earlier in her career, she clerked at the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, gaining experience in financial and receivership litigation.
Sofya is a frequent writer and speaker on appellate practice, with numerous articles in the New York Law Journal and other leading legal publications, and has moderated appellate panels for the New York City Bar Association.
