Melvin M. Wright, Jr., is a partner in Kahana Feld’s Houston office and is a member of the General Liability, NY Labor Law and Trucking & Transportation groups. Melvin is a seasoned trial attorney with more than 25 years of experience in both the private and public sectors. He represents corporate and individual clients in a wide range of civil and criminal matters, including governmental investigations and prosecutions of business crimes. Having tried more than 50 jury trials to verdict, he leverages his courtroom experience to deliver strategic, effective representation for his clients.
Prior to returning to private practice, Melvin served as lead in-house counsel at the New Jersey Turnpike Authority, where he oversaw a wide range of high-level litigation matters. He also served as a supervisory attorney at the New Jersey Office of State Comptroller/Medicaid Fraud Division, where he settled the largest recovery of improper payments in the history of the Medicaid Fraud Division.
Melvin also previously served as a Deputy Attorney General for the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office, handling criminal, civil, and white-collar matters. Earlier in his career, he practiced at two Am Law 100 firms as a litigation partner, representing Fortune 500 companies, executives, and other prominent clients in complex investigations and disputes. After graduating law school, he served as the judicial law clerk on the New Jersey Supreme Court for the late Chief Justice Robert N. Wilentz.
Melvin is licensed to practice law in New York and New Jersey.
