Leah O’Leary is a partner in Kahana Feld’s Austin office. With first-chair experience in over 30 trials across federal and state courts, Leah is a seasoned civil litigator who handles matters from their inception to conclusion, including on appeal. Her extensive experience serving as lead counsel includes motion practice, discovery, alternative dispute resolution, contested hearings, jury and bench trials, and appeal. Leah has delivered several federal Fifth Circuit and state appellate oral arguments and has filed over 50 briefs in the Fifth Circuit, U.S. Supreme Court, the Texas Supreme Court, and state intermediate courts of appeals. Her vast appellate experience results in a deep understanding of where errors and victories are made from the inception of a case onwards.
Prior to joining Kahana Feld, Leah served as a Senior Staff Attorney and Due Process Supervisor at the Texas Juvenile Justice Department. As a member of the executive team, Leah developed and implemented high-level strategic decisions throughout the agency.
Leah also spent over a decade at the Office of the Attorney General of Texas (OAG), where she served as the Deputy Chief of the Law Enforcement Defense Division. While at the OAG, Leah held numerous leadership roles and directly supervised over 50 attorneys and support staff. In addition to her leadership responsibilities, Leah maintained a docket of complex civil cases and appellate matters.
